Jakarta, June 23rd 2024 – The Foundation of Inspiration for Indonesia Development or known as Yayasan Inspirasi Indonesia Membangun (YIIM) in cooperation with Insight Investments Management Company have been implementing an empowerment program for economically and socially vulnerable groups through the Community Barista Business Improvement Action (AROMA).
This program is one form of effort made to provide opportunities for the community, especially economically and socially vulnerable groups, to explore their potential thus they can actively participate in the economic sector, especially in the coffee industry as baristas. In his remarks, Mr. Chrisbiantoro as the Chairperson of the Foundation of Inspiration for Indonesia Development (YIIM) conveyed that, “We hope the participants be serious in carrying out the training as there will be an assessment for all of them. In addition, this training is not only a charity activity but this training contains a moral message for you in addition to becoming coffee shop practitioners or UMKM baristas”.
This program implementation was attended by 15 participants who had successfully passed the selection process. Participants who passed the selection will take part in a 5-day training program from June 19th to 21st 2024 and June 24th to 25th 2024, accompanied by experienced trainers and graduates of previous AROMA programs.
On the 1st day of activities, participants began by filling out a pre-test to determine their knowledge of baristas and coffee. After that, participants were given a basic introduction to baristas and coffee. The delivery of this material aims to measure and strengthen the basic knowledge of participants in learning about baristas and coffee.
After the introduction to the basics of baristas and coffee, on the second day of training, participants will be given material on Basic Techniques for Making Espresso and Espresso-Based Drinks.
On the 2nd day, participants began to practice making several coffee recipes such as Cappuccino, Latte, and Americano and practiced making milk foam using manual and automatic techniques.
After learning how to make good milk foam, on the 3rd day, participants will learn latte art and milk pouring techniques. With this latte art training, we hope participants will be able to make latte art and also show skills and creativity that can be poured into latte art.
In addition to being given coffee material, participants also received material on mocktails. This aims to increase knowledge of non-coffee drinks and increase customer interest. On the 4th day, the trainer introduced mocktails.
This introduction to mocktails was carried out by explaining the theory of mocktails, the differences with cocktails, and also the ingredients used.
In addition to mocktails, participants learned about various types of flavoring powders for drinks and the practice of using flavoring powders in coffee and non-coffee drinks.
In the last day, participants were provided with cafe management and customer service materials. This is intended to provide participants with customer appealing ability in order to make customer get good experience in visiting the place where participants work and coffee sales management. And the last activity, participants were tested on their abilities after participating in 5 days of training by holding a coffee shop roleplay.
This roleplay aims so they can implement the knowledge that has been obtained during the 5 days of training, show creativity and build participants’ self-confidence.
“Hopefully this training program can provide benefits to the wider community and also because we cannot deny that MSMEs are one of the wheels of the economy. Thus about MSMEs, actually the country’s economy may not be able to run as fast as this, so believe that your contribution, although small, is very meaningful for the development of the country and especially the people around us.” Said CSR Representative of Insight Investments, Mr. Isnaeni Setiawan.
By holding this coffee barista training, YIIM hopes to help the community, especially those included in vulnerable groups, to be empowered so that they can actively participate in the economic sector, especially the barista and coffee industry. In addition, it helps participants to be able to develop knowledge and skills to start their businesses.
