Dissemination Webinar & Book Launch of Generous Practices of Youth Advocacy Action for Climate Change in West Java

Jakarta, June 5th, 2024 — The Foundation of Inspiration for Indonesia Development or known as Yayasan Inspirasi Indonesia Membangun (YIIM) in cooperation with Insight Investment Management Company held a dissemination webinar and book launch entitled “Youth for Climate Action: Generous Practices of Youth Advocacy Action for Climate Change”. This event is the culmination of a series of youth advocacy activities that have been taking place in the city of Bandung since February 2024, while also commemorating World Environment Day. The webinar can be watched via the You Tube link

In February, YIIM collaborated with U-Report Indonesia and the IBU Foundation to hold advocacy training to equip youth with the skills and knowledge needed to support climate and humanitarian action. In addition to training, this program also provides an opportunity for youth-led organizations to submit advocacy plans and receive funding of two million rupiah.

In the period March to April 2024, these organizations implemented their advocacy programs with a focus on three main themes: disaster preparedness, waste management, and increasing awareness of the climate crisis. This webinar aims to disseminate the results of the actions that have been carried out, share experiences, and explain effective good practices in advocating for climate change issues. This event is expected to provide guidance for similar initiatives in the future, build a stronger community, and expand the collaboration network.

The launch of the book “Youth for Climate Action: Generous Practices of Youth Advocacy Action for Climate Change” aims to document the entire process and results of the program, provide long-term references, and encourage more real actions in voicing climate and humanitarian issues. This book presents various strategies and best practices found during the implementation of the program, which can be used as a guide for other young generations in conducting environmental advocacy. This book can be accessed at https://yiim.or.id/buku-laporan-tahunan/

This webinar was filled by Ikrom Mustofa, founder of the Yayasan Generasi Cerdas Iklim, who delivered material on the introduction of climate change and its impact on children and young people. In addition, Salma Fauzani, a young advocate representing one of the organizations selected in the advocacy action, shared stories about the beginning of the formation of her organization, the challenges faced, and good practices found during the implementation of the action.

With this event, YIIM hopes to create a bigger and more diverse movement in addressing climate change and disasters through collaboration and sharing of good practices carried out by the younger generation. Strong collaboration and good documentation are expected to increase the credibility of the program, motivate further support from the community, and invite more people to get involved in this movement.
